Our Aims and Objectives

Our CRP aims and objectives have been developed in line with the Department for Transport’s New Community Rail Development Strategy to help develop and promote localised sustainable rail travel.

Broadly speaking they currently include:

Aims

To develop the Hooton to Helsby line as a showpiece regional railway with a high level of community involvement, attractive station facilities, good co-ordination with other forms of transport and a service that meets the needs of local people and visitors to provide value for money for passengers and taxpayers.

To develop the line as a national demonstration project focussing on social enterprise and sustainable development along a rail corridor.

To develop links with local Community Rail Partnerships especially the Mid-Cheshire Line Community Rail Partnership, the Borderlands Line, Chester – Shrewsbury Line and others.

To develop links with the Regional and National Rail Operators that link with the North-Cheshire line, especially Northern, Merseyrail, Transport for Wales, Avanti West Coast.

To develop links with Regional Bus and Coach Operators that link with the North-Cheshire line, especially Stagecoach and Arriva.

Objectives

Improved Rail Services and Facilities.

Improved station facilities.

Improved information for users and visitors.

Improved train connections at Hooton and Helsby.

Improved bus links.

Better park and ride facilities.

Improved quality of rolling stock.

Improved service frequencies.

Improved disabled access.

Improved journey times.  

Examination of direct links to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, and around the Halton Curve to Liverpool.

New station facilities where appropriate. 

Develop stations as gateways to the local community.

Improve walking and cycling routes between stations and their hinterland.

Improved transport links along the Cheshire Science Corridor.

Engagement with diverse communities.
