Arts & Culture Co-ordinator (Volunteer)

Volunteer opportunity with North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership

Purpose of the role

The Arts & Culture Co-ordinator helps bring railways and stations to life through creative, community-led projects. This role supports North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership’s vision of Everyone Proud of our Railways by using arts and culture to strengthen local identity, encourage participation and make stations welcoming, vibrant places.

The role contributes particularly to our strategic themes of Stations in their Place and Research, Education and Heritage, while also supporting wellbeing, inclusion and community engagement.

What will the role involve?

The Arts & Culture Co-ordinator will help identify, develop and support creative projects linked to stations, rail journeys or the wider railway environment.

This may include:

  • Working with community groups, schools or colleges to develop creative projects that reflect people’s experiences of travelling by train
  • Supporting activities such as visual art displays, poetry or creative writing, photography and interpretation boards
  • Exploring opportunities for small-scale performances or “pop-up” creative events at stations or rail-related spaces
  • Building relationships with local artists, performers and creative organisations to encourage collaboration
  • Working with other volunteers and partners to ensure projects are inclusive, realistic and well planned
  • Helping capture stories, images and learning so that the impact of projects can be shared and evidenced

What experience or interests are we looking for?

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has an interest in arts, culture or creative community activity
  • Enjoys working with people and supporting ideas to develop
  • Has experience engaging with community groups, schools, artists or performers, whether formally or informally
  • Is organised, communicative and comfortable coordinating activity
  • Shares our commitment to inclusion, community pride and positive social impact

You do not need to be a professional artist. Enthusiasm, collaboration and a practical approach are more important than formal qualifications.

Location and time commitment

Location: Within the Partnership area, particularly around Ellesmere Port, Helsby and Frodsham, with some flexibility depending on project activity.

Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week, with flexibility depending on projects.

Why this role matters

Creative projects help people see stations as more than transport spaces. They can become places of identity, learning and connection. By coordinating arts and culture activity, you will help strengthen pride in our railways and contribute to the wider social value of community rail.
