Purpose of the role
We are looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator to help grow, support and sustain a diverse, inclusive and motivated volunteer community across North Cheshire, Halton and Warrington.
This is a key leadership volunteer role, central to delivering NCCRP’s vision of Everyone Proud of our Railways. The role exists to turn our four strategic themes into practical, visible action across stations, railways and local communities by ensuring volunteers are well recruited, supported and valued.
Our immediate priorities are in Ellesmere Port, Helsby and Frodsham, where we are keen to develop and expand projects that strengthen community connection with local railways. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will play an important role in helping these initiatives grow in a structured and sustainable way.
In doing so, the role supports the Partnership’s ability to demonstrate clear social value, impact and accountability as we continue to build momentum.
What will the role involve?
The Volunteer Co-ordinator will lead the recruitment, induction and ongoing support of volunteers across NCCRP’s projects and programmes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading volunteer recruitment activity in line with the Volunteering Strategy, ensuring opportunities are promoted widely, clearly and inclusively.
- Working with project leads to identify volunteer requirements for individual projects and ensure roles are clearly defined, appropriate and well supported.
- Working closely with the Communications lead to promote volunteering opportunities through agreed channels, including digital platforms and community networks.
- Building relationships with community organisations, voluntary groups and local partners to generate interest in volunteering and develop collaborative opportunities.
- Managing the volunteer journey from initial conversations and selection through induction, ongoing support and engagement, and recognition of contributions.
- Acting as a point of contact and advocate for volunteers, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences inform how NCCRP develops its work.
- Supporting the collection of proportionate evidence and insight to demonstrate the impact of volunteering activity in line with accreditation, funder and social value expectations.
What experience or skills are we looking for?
This is a leadership volunteer role suited to someone who:
- Has experience of volunteering, ideally including leading, co-ordinating or supporting others.
- Enjoys working with people and building relationships across diverse communities.
- Has strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Is organised, approachable and supportive, with the confidence to work independently while collaborating closely with others.
- Shares NCCRP’s values around inclusion, community pride, wellbeing and sustainable development.
Location and time commitment
- Location: Flexible. The role is based within the Partnership area or nearby, with the ability to travel locally to meet volunteers, attend events and connect with community organisations.
- Time commitment: Approximately 3 hours per week, with flexibility depending on project activity and recruitment cycles.
Why this role matters
Volunteers are the lifeblood of NCCRP. The Volunteer Co-ordinator plays a vital role in ensuring volunteering is not just well managed, but meaningful, rewarding and impactful. By supporting volunteers effectively, this role helps NCCRP deliver its projects, strengthen community connections, and demonstrate the real social value of community rail.
