Key Visitor Survey Report Published

Recommendations for improved visitor access to Sandstone Ridge by public transport

A new visitor survey of Cheshire’s iconic Sandstone Ridge has just been published. The research was carried out by the University of Chester with support from the North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership. It looks at who visits the Ridge, what they do, and how they experience this much-loved landscape.

The report shares valuable insights into visitor profiles, satisfaction levels, and the economic benefits of tourism in the area. It also examines accessibility and inclusivity, showing where improvements could make the Ridge easier to reach by public transport.

The Sandstone Ridge Trust and its partners have been encouraged to consider several actions. These include improving infrastructure, creating stronger marketing campaigns, enhancing visitor resources, and developing better transport connections.

More than a survey, the report provides a clear starting point for new collaboration. It shows how greater awareness of the Ridge’s attractions, alongside improved train and bus links, can support local businesses and encourage sustainable travel.

We’re keen to build on these findings by working with tourism bodies, transport providers, and local organisations. Together, we can help develop a visitor economy that benefits both the environment and the communities we serve.
