A Partnership Delivering Community Benefits
The new outdoor gym in Elton opened on Thursday 7 April, bringing residents, partners and community representatives together to celebrate.
Cllr Pauline O’Reilly led the opening, alongside Elton Parish Council, North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership (NCCRP), rail industry partners including Northern Trains, and members of the local community. The event included a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by refreshments.
Located next to Elton Community Centre, the Elton outdoor gym includes ten pieces of equipment. These support a wide range of physical activity. As a result, the space is accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and abilities.

Partners delivered the project through strong collaboration. Elton Parish Council, Northern Trains and North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership worked together to bring the gym to life. This approach ensures lasting benefits for the community while strengthening the role of the railway in everyday life.
In addition, the project supports healthier lifestyles and helps reduce social isolation. It also encourages more active and sustainable travel choices. At the same time, it strengthens connections between the community and local stations.
North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership works with public, private and voluntary sector partners across the region. Together, they maximise the social, economic and environmental benefits of the railway. Through projects like this, communities can feel more connected and take pride in their railway.

A partnership delivering lasting community impact
Commenting on the opening, Mark Warren, Director at North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, said:
“We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Elton Parish Council and the rail industry, particularly Northern Trains, to bring this project to life. This outdoor gym is a strong example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared commitment to supporting their community.
Importantly, this is just the beginning. We want to build on this momentum by developing further collaborative projects that promote health and wellbeing, strengthen community connections and ensure that Elton station and its railway are valued as an integral part of everyday life.”
Residents are encouraged to make full use of the new facility and enjoy the benefits it brings.
