Welcome to Chester Station
A historic gateway connecting Cheshire to the wider UK rail network
Chester Station, located in the Newtown area of the city, is one of the North West’s most important railway hubs. Designed by Francis Thompson and opened in 1848, the station has stood the test of time and is now Grade II* listed for its architectural and historical significance. Originally known as Chester General, it once operated alongside the now-closed Chester Northgate and continues to play a central role in the city’s transport heritage.
Today, Chester Station is a major interchange for both local and long-distance journeys, with regular services to London, Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and other key destinations. Following a major refurbishment in 2007, passengers now enjoy improved facilities, enhanced accessibility and a welcoming environment th
