Purpose of the role
North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help grow awareness of our work across social media and digital communications.
This role supports the promotion of community rail activities, local projects, events and volunteering opportunities across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington. In addition, the volunteer will help share positive railway stories that connect communities with their local railways.
The volunteer will create engaging content for platforms including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. There may also be opportunities to explore channels such as TikTok where appropriate.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling, photography, community engagement or digital marketing. It would also suit someone who wants to support a growing not-for-profit organisation focused on community rail and sustainable travel.
What will the role involve?
Activities may include:
- Creating and scheduling social media posts
- Promoting events, projects and volunteer opportunities
- Taking and sharing photographs or short videos
- Helping increase engagement and audience reach
- Supporting LinkedIn communications for partners and stakeholders
- Sharing positive stories about stations, sustainable travel and community activity
- Assisting with campaigns that encourage volunteering and community participation
You will act as our “eyes and ears” locally, helping us understand what matters most in your community and where the railway can play a positive role.
Why this role matters
Strong communication helps connect communities with their railways. By sharing positive stories and promoting local projects, this role will help increase awareness of North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership across the region.
In addition, the volunteer will support the Partnership’s vision of Everyone Proud of Our Railways. The role will also help showcase the social, environmental and wellbeing benefits that community rail brings to local people and places.
This opportunity may particularly suit a student, graduate or early career professional looking to gain practical experience in digital marketing, communications, media or community engagement. Likewise, it could suit someone interested in sustainable travel or community-based projects.
This is a flexible volunteer opportunity and can often be carried out remotely. As a result, it may suit someone looking to contribute a few hours each week around existing commitments.
Experience with social media is helpful. However, enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to learn are equally valued.
