Treasurer Volunteer Role

Volunteer opportunity with North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership

What will the role involve? 

This Treasurer volunteer role supports the responsible and transparent financial management of North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership. By doing so, it helps ensure community rail activity remains well governed, trusted and sustainable.

In this role, you will work alongside the Community Rail Development Officer and actively support day-to-day financial records and monthly reporting. As a result, the Partnership can continue to operate with confidence and clarity.

What will the role involve? 

As Treasurer, you will help support the smooth and responsible financial operation of North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership. In practice, you will work closely with the Community Rail Development Officer to assist with:

  • simple bookkeeping and recording of income and expenditure
  • filing and organising invoices, receipts and financial records
  • producing a clear, straightforward financial summary at the end of each month

In addition, You will help ensure that:

  • orders for goods and services are properly documented and approved
  • basic records are kept for any stocks or materials held by the Partnership

Through this work, the role plays an important part in keeping the Partnership transparent, accountable and well governed. Consequently, it also supports confidence from funders, partners and volunteers alike. 

Who would this role suit? 

This role would suit someone who:

  • is happy working “behind the scenes”
  • has a basic understanding of financial bookkeeping
  • is organised, methodical and comfortable working with records
  • values good governance and responsible use of public or partnership funding

You do not need to be a qualified accountant. Instead, a practical and careful approach, combined with a willingness to work with simple systems, matters far more than formal financial training.

Location and time commitment 

This role can be carried out from anywhere within the Partnership area.

Typically, the time commitment is around two hours per week, although flexibility is available depending on activity levels.

Support and working arrangements

You will work closely with:

  • the Community Rail Development Officer
  • Directors, where approvals or oversight are required

From the outset, support will be provided to ensure you are comfortable with systems, expectations and reporting processes.
