Together for Proud, Connected Railways

Connecting people, places and possibilities through meaningful community partnerships across the railways of North Cheshire.

North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership

Who We Are

We are a grassroots, volunteer-led Community Rail Partnership, passionate about connecting people with their local railways. Through collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, we aim to make our communities better places to live in, work in, and visit.

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership operates on a not-for-profit basis. This means every penny we receive is reinvested into delivering impactful projects that benefit local people.

How We’re Funded

Everyone Proud of Our Railways

Our core funding comes from the railway industry. In addition, we collaborate with a wide range of partners to bring complementary skills, experience, and resources to individual projects. These relationships are essential to helping us deliver value across our region.

Our Vision

We believe that when communities feel proud of their local railways, they are more likely to engage with and benefit from them. This underpins everything we do.

How We Work

Our work is shaped by a Steering Group made up of our core partner organisations. They guide our strategy and ensure our projects stay aligned with our values.

As an accredited member of the Department for Transport’s Community Rail Strategy, we are also part of the national Community Rail Network, benefitting from shared knowledge and collaboration.

We are fully accountable, operating with governance arrangements, policies, and reporting procedures that ensure transparency and trust. Importantly, we listen. By responding to local needs and ideas, we help make meaningful change—because great ideas can come from anywhere, at any time.

Our Organisation and People

North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership is led by a board of volunteer directors. Day-to-day development and delivery is managed by our Community Rail Development Officer, a part-time post funded through our core grant income.

We also work with trusted professionals for tasks such as accountancy and marketing. However, the majority of our work is made possible thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of our growing team of volunteers.

A Nationwide Movement for Good

Community rail partnerships like ours are making a huge impact across Britain—engaging over 125,000 people annually and generating more than £129 million in social value.

From just £7.2 million in funding, the sector delivers a social return of £17.89 for every £1 spent. It’s a fantastic example of grassroots collaboration creating real, measurable outcomes.

Across the country:

  • There are more than 75 Community Rail Partnerships, each working to connect communities and railways through local projects.
  • Over 1,200 “station friends” groups with more than 10,000 volunteers are actively involved in gardening, art, and community events at stations.
  • More than 100 “community stations” have transformed unused buildings into vibrant community spaces, social enterprises, or hubs for local activity.

Together, we’re part of a wider movement putting community at the heart of local transport.
