Free Days Out, Heritage and Rail Travel Experiences
North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and the Danny are inviting community groups across Ellesmere Port and the surrounding area to take part in a series of free rail trips and activities on 13 and 14 July 2026.
The activities form part of Ellesmere Port Discovery Days. They offer local groups the chance to enjoy free rail travel, explore local heritage and take part in community activities.
Free Rail Trips to Port Sunlight
Several places remain available on free group rail trips from Ellesmere Port to the historic village of Port Sunlight.
Groups will travel together by train before visiting cultural and heritage attractions. They will also learn more about one of the region’s most fascinating communities.
The trips suit community groups, wellbeing organisations, social groups and heritage organisations. In addition, they may appeal to groups that want to build confidence using public transport.
Activities at Ellesmere Port Station
Alongside the rail trips, volunteers will host free activities at Ellesmere Port Railway Station throughout the Discovery Days programme.
Visitors can enjoy refreshments, take part in creative activities and view photography displays. They can also share ideas and feedback that may help shape future community projects.
As a result, the activities will help bring people together while celebrating local heritage and sustainable travel.
Bringing Railways and Waterways Together
North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and the Danny have developed Ellesmere Port Discovery Days together.
The programme connects the area’s railway and waterway heritage. At the same time, it encourages learning, exploration and community participation.
Furthermore, the activities create opportunities for people to discover more about the places, stories and communities that have shaped Ellesmere Port.

Places remain available. However, capacity is limited and demand may increase as the event approaches.
